Professional qualifications of the driver

The Act and decree on the professional qualifications of lorry and bus drivers entered into force on 1 August 2007. The purpose of professional qualifications is to increase the professional capacity of drivers, thereby improving the safety of transport and transport and the conditions for drivers to carry out their duties. Without professional qualifications, a lorry or bus may not be driven professionally on the road. We also offer card trainings for an additional fee for professional qualification registration. The professional qualifications can be obtained from some of our first aid, emergency first aid, occupational safety and predictive driving courses.

Target audience

The basic professional qualifications of a lorry and bus driver are required of drivers whose bus licences started on or after 10 September 2008 and drivers whose right to drive started on or after 10 September 2009. Basic vocational qualification training does not need to be conducted if the right to drive the bus started before 10 September 2008, or the right to drive the lorry before 10 September 2009. New drivers entering the field will be given professional qualifications for the first time after completing basic training, after which professional qualifications will be maintained through further training. Professional qualifications are valid for five (5) years at a time. In order to maintain their professional qualifications, drivers must complete further training during that five-year period.

Content

In further education, the total amount of teaching is 35 hours in five years. Teaching shall be given in periods of at least 7 hours and may consist of theoretical instruction, driving instruction or both subjects covered by the Directive. The only mandatory topic in further training is proactive and environmentally friendly driving training (7 hours). If you have professional qualifications for both bus and lorry driving categories, you can maintain professional qualifications in both categories by completing 35 hours of further training once over a period of 5 years. Based on the days of further training completed, you can apply for an extension of your professional qualifications no earlier than 6 months before the end of your current qualification. In this case, the professional qualification will continue from the current end date 5 years ahead. The application submitted before this will start a new 5-year period of completement of your last day of further training. If your professional qualification has already expired, the new period will start with the performance of your last day of further training.
